YWCA South Hampton Roads Almost Home Emergency Shelter program provides a unique opportunity for the community to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of our shelter.
This is an impactful opportunity to make YWCA South Hampton Roads Almost Home Emergency Shelter more welcoming and safer for our guests and team members.
We are looking to make our emergency shelter more than a stop in our clients’ journey, but a place where our guests can lay their heads knowing they’re safe, a place where they can laugh with other clients experiencing similar situations, where their children can find mental reprieve on our playground, a place to learn to cook in our communal kitchen – a place that’s Almost Home!
Through sponsorship, guest rooms and common spaces within our shelter can be adopted for your choice of six or twelve months.
Our emergency shelter provides a place of healing and respite care for victims of violence transitioning out of violence. It is our goal to create a place of sanctuary for our guests while they go through the difficult transitions of leaving a dangerous situation and provide a safe place for our team members and guests as we maintain our shelter.
By sponsoring a guest room or common space, you are making a clear statement to the community and to our guests that you are personally committed to providing for women and children experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence.

What does sponsorship include?
During your six or twelve-month Almost Home sponsorship, you will provide for:
Guests' room(s) or common areas
- Replenishing household items as they are depleted or you can provide financial support to offset these cost
OR
Sponsor a repair or equipment
- Help ensure the safety and security of our guests and team members who operate in the shelter daily by replacing commercial appliances, lawn care services, electrical needs that arise, etc.
We aim to provide a safe haven and second home these victims of violence need.
- Recognition on our official website and social media
- An invitation to the YWCA Emergency Shelter and see the impact you are making (screening and appointment required)
- Prominent signage outside of your adopted room/space, which can be seen by hundreds of clients each year
