For over 45 years, YWCA South Hampton Roads has operated our emergency shelter, providing the ONLY place of refuge for families escaping domestic and sexual violence in the City of Norfolk.
As a result, finding a vacancy in the shelter can frequently prove to be an obstacle for families who are fleeing violence. Committed to ensuring that no individual facing imminent danger will be turned away regardless of capacity, YWCA South Hampton Roads purchased a large shelter in July 2019.
This facility has enabled us to expand from 9 to 22 rooms, increased our shelter footprint from 3,000 to 9,500 square feet and more than doubled the capacity of clients served under one roof.

Relocation
YWCA South Hampton Roads offers relocation assistance to individuals and families in need of a safe and supportive environment. This program helps with securing stable housing and provides the necessary resources to transition to a new living situation. Our priority is to ensure that individuals can move forward with the support they need to rebuild their lives and regain independence.
