Outreach and Education
YWCA South Hampton Roads frequently participates in community resource fairs to distribute information about our agency.
Specialized training on sexual assault and domestic violence awareness is available for area schools, universities, military, and the community at large. Training can be tailored to a specific population and topic (i.e., teen dating violence).
Most of our curriculum is free or offered at a low cost. To request outreach services at your next event, fill out the form below. Please understand that we cannot guarantee our availability and we strongly encourage at least one month's notice.
Community Training
At YWCA South Hampton Roads, we are dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive community for all. Our Racial and Equity Justice team offers a range of comprehensive trainings on topics such as racial justice, military services and trauma-informed care to help raise awareness and promote prevention of domestic violence, sexual harassment and violence, and stalking.
Youth Services
YWCA is one of the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organizations in the world. YWCA South Hampton Roads is dedicated to the fullness of its mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
YWCA South Hampton Roads has completed a rapid transformation from a well-established direct service provider for women and families facing crisis to an organization working at the intersection of eliminating racism, empowering women and standing up for social justice, helping families and strengthening our community. One of the current core focuses of YWCA South Hampton Roads is Strengthening Youth Services.
AMEND Together
AMEND Together is a primary prevention initiative dedicated to ending violence against women and girls by engaging men and boys (grades 5th to 12th) to challenge the culture that supports violence.
AMENDing Through Faith
AMENDing Through Faith is an eight-week series for men (college age) who are passionate about ending violence against women and actively seeking specific ways to make the world a better place. This program launched on the campus of Norfolk State University in Spring 2024.

Children in Shelter and Community Counseling
Families enter domestic violence shelters due to a variety of possible factors commonly associated with homelessness, including a possible lack of employment to ensure independent housing, transportation, and financial security.
The primary reason for many, however, is the experience of frightening, traumatic, violent events. We aim to eliminate the effects of these often traumatic experiences with free counseling services for the children of our clients.
Harvard CARE Project (Child At Risk Exercise)
The Harvard CARE Project is a HIPAA compliant triage system, which quickly assesses the risks experienced by children using a traffic light method (red, yellow, green).
C.A.R.E.'s pilot in Norfolk focuses on improving the way in which law enforcement collect and streamline information which will ultimately go into the hands of CPS.
The pilot also provides CPS with enhanced data gathering techniques to make a secondary assessment in real time, which hopefully will significantly reduce the waiting period experienced by children who may be suffering maltreatment whilst being referred.
