Today’s narrow passage of the House’s tax and spending cuts bill (218–214) sends a troubling message to the communities we serve. At YWCA South Hampton Roads, we know firsthand that slashing critical services—such as Medicaid and health care, housing support, and food assistance—doesn’t create equity or prosperity. It deepens harm for women, children, survivors, and communities of color.
We urge our leaders to center justice, compassion, and lived experience—not ideology—in national policymaking. Our mission is clear: Eliminate racism. Empower women. And we cannot do that while tearing down the very supports our communities rely on to survive and thrive.
We’ll keep advocating. We’ll keep showing up. And we call on our partners and allies to do the same.
